Report to Governor & General Assembly due Dec. 1, 2004 (Chapter 447, Acts of 2003).

In October 2003, the Task Force to Study the Reorganization of the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene was formed (Chapter 447, Acts of 2003).

Ways to improve the delivery of health and mental hygiene services to Maryland residents were to be considered by the Task Force. It also was to study the structure of the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and examine the organizational structure of health departments in other states. Through its study, the Task Force was to examine the effects of removing the Developmental Disabilities Administration, the Mental Hygiene Administration, and the Maryland Medical Assistance Program from the Department. Additionally, the Task Force was charged with evaluating the financing of the health care delivery system, the program and service delivery, the review and application of quality assurance standards and regulation implementation, and the administrative and operational support.

Authorization for the Task Force expired December 31, 2004 (Chapter 447, Acts of 2003). The Task Force, although its members were appointed, never met.
