The Task Force to Study Criminal Offender Monitoring by Global Positioning Systems was created in October 2004 (Chapters 138 & 139, Acts of 2004). How Maryland may use global positioning systems to monitor certain individuals who have committed crimes or are awaiting trial will be studied by the Task Force. How law enforcement agencies can benefit from such technology to solve crimes also will be considered. In addition, the Task Force is to analyze the costs and benefits of implementing a global positioning technology program in the State. Admissibility of evidence issues will be examined as well.
